Balancing report 2022/23
Together with the balancing agents AGCS and A&B, AGGM is preparing the balancing report for the gas year 2022/23 in accordance with the applicable ordinance regarding the Austrian gas market model (Gas Market Model Ordinance 2020) on the AGGM website.
This report is the first following the introduction of the new balancing system on 1 October 2022. In summary, the conversion and implementation of the balancing system have worked. Essentially, the analyses show that the balancing system contributes to grid stability.
For the 2022/23 period, the market volume and end customer consumption in the Eastern, Tyrol and Vorarlberg market areas will fall due to the general market environment with high prices and general savings behaviour. The ratio of market volume to end customer consumption indicates that Austria has changed from a transit country to a national sales market.

More balancing energy volumes were sold via AGGM's balancing energy management in 2022/23, which suggests that the market was oversupplied by the balance responsible parties. However, this does not represent an additional challenge for security of supply.
In the Eastern market area, counterbalancing energy was only traded on three days - as the purchase and sale of balancing energy on the same day - which led to the costs for structuring being charged to balance responsible parties. When analysing these days in detail, AGGM came to the conclusion that this imbalance in the market area was significantly influenced by the balance groups without end customer supply.
