Dear readers!
Summer is over and autumn has arrived. While the leaves are falling from the trees, a lot has happened politically. A new National Council was elected on 29 September and the election results were eagerly awaited. Regardless of the government constellation, the goal remains the same: The implementation of important energy policy decisions for the success of the energy system transition must not be a party political issue!
The reorganisation of the gas infrastructure for the energy transition in the pipeline must proceed quickly so that the integration of renewable gases into the energy system can succeed. The infrastructure plans of the transmission system operators Gas Connect Austria and TAG as well as AGGM, which are currently under public consultation until 23 November 2024 and will be presented on 5 November 2024 at the Austrian Gas Infrastructure Day, show how the infrastructure must develop. We look forward to your comments! More on this below!
In addition to the general political situation in Austria, autumn also brings movement in other regions. The uncertainties surrounding 1 January 2025 and the expiry of the gas transit contracts by Ukraine remain a hot topic. Gas storage facilities are currently around 94% full, which provides a certain degree of security in uncertain times. The security of supply for this winter is therefore at a high level. ENTSOG's current winter outlook also shows that supply bottlenecks are only to be expected in extreme scenarios. With high storage levels even at the end of the winter, the outlook beyond that is also calm. ENTSOG also states the following: In order to achieve the target of 90% storage levels by the end of summer 2025, it is necessary to ensure that storage levels at European level do not fall below 30% or 40% by the start of the injection period in April 2025, depending on the availability of LNG.
Despite the currently stable supply situation, prices on the CEGH gas exchange have risen above the EUR 40/MWh mark again and are therefore still more than twice as high as before 2022. The explosive situation in the Middle East is probably a major contributing factor, as this also makes the availability of LNG sources more uncertain. High levels of volatility are likely to remain on the energy markets for some time to come, which is not good news for energy customers and energy-intensive businesses.
And if temperatures continue to fall, another sign of autumn will also become apparent: gas-fired power plants will be running more frequently again to ensure stability in the electricity grid and thus security of supply. Finally, we are pleased to inform you that AGGM has once again passed the ISO audit 2024 (ISO 9001:2015) with outstanding success. The audit was conducted without any deviations or findings, which confirms the excellent quality and diligence of our quality management system.
Our employees were once again recognised as pillars of the company. Their expertise and commitment play a key role in maintaining quality. Incidentally, we also achieved wonderful results in this year's customer satisfaction survey. More on this below!
We hope you enjoy reading this issue and wish you all the best in the golden season.
